In the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, blacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate 'Captain' Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who now happen to be undead. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
In the smash-hit film that started the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the young blacksmith and sword maker Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) joins with the silly, yet effective and clever pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) to rescue Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) whom Will Turner loves. She has been captured by a former shipmate of Sparrow, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who has become an undead pirate along with his crew.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
In the thrilling Pirates sequel, Dead Man's Chest, Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander), chairman of the East India Trading Company, interrupts the wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) with an arrest warrant for them and Commodore James Norrington (Jack Davenport) who allowed Jack Sparrow to escape in the first film.
Meanwhile, Jack Sparrow is running from Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) who has come to collect on a debt that will either mean Sparrow is killed by the Kraken or taken captive to serve on Davy Jones' ship The Flying Dutchman. The chase eventually involves Will and Elizabeth, who are trying to get their lives and freedom back. Along the way, Will finds his father Bootstrap Bill (Stellan Skarsgård) on the ship of Davy Jones.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
The third film, At World's End, concludes the three-part story that focuses heavily on the love story of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley). Captain Barbossa as (Geoffrey Rush) drops back into the main storyline and joins forces with Turner, Swan and Barbossa's formerly undead crew of pirates to search for Jack Sparrow. They must brave a dangerous sea journey off the edges of the map into fantastical realms, then return somehow to fight Cutler Beckett and his massive East India Trading Company navy, which now has the dreaded Davy Jones in its service.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
In On Stranger Tides, the Pirates franchise moves away from the Will Turner-Elizabeth Swan love story and focuses on a new adventure with Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) at the center. After a failed attempt to rescue a shipmate, Sparrow is forced to go on an expedition with Barbossa to find the Fountain of Youth. Meanwhile, Angelica (Penélope Cruz) is impersonating Sparrow and forming a crew of her own to find the Fountain. She happens to be the daughter of the terrifying pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), who is also after the Fountain of Youth and will stop at nothing to find it.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
In Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment of the sprawling Pirates series, the story works as a direct sequel to On Stranger Tides, but it also weaves in the storyline of the earlier films. A young Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), the son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), finds his father on The Flying Dutchman and vows to find the Triton of Poseidon, which has the power to set Will free.
Years later, an undead pirate hunter named Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) breaks free from his supernatural prison and begins a quest to hunt down and kill Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as revenge for Sparrow's role in trapping Salazar in Devil's Triangle. Eventually the paths of Sparrow, Henry Turner, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), and a mysterious woman named Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), cross paths as they search for the Triton of Poseidon and flee Captain Salazar.
Pirates Don't Die Easy
If five films of the Pirates of the Caribbean aren't enough for you, you're in luck. According to production rumors, work is in progress on a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, yet to be titled. It is rumored that Geoffrey Rush could reprise his role as Hector Barbossa, and that it might also see the return of the character Davy Jones and Angelica (Penélope Cruz).
