X-Men Origins Wolverine Cast

The 2009 cinematic installment of the Wolverine saga brought the audience to the beginning of Wolverine's back story. In the film, Logan and his brother Victor are mutants born 200 years ago. As they grow older, they become mercenary soldiers and unstoppable killers who fight from war to war. When Logan tries to leave the violent life and settle down, a vicious act from Victor sends Logan on a quest for revenge.

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Cast List

The X-Men Origins: Wolverine cast is filled to the brim with big name stars, including the following cast members:

• Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine): Jackman worked with Liev Schreiber on the film Kate & Leopold, and then Schreiber was cast as Wolverine's brother Sabretooth who becomes a rival and enemy of Wolverine. In reality, Jackman and Schreiber are good friends whose families hang out together.
• Liev Schreiber (Victor Creed/Sabretooth): Schreiber and Jackman were known for their competitive nature during the shooting of Wolverine, and Jackman would sometimes land a hit on him intentionally after the scene cut - to provoke his anger and make the scene even more tense and effective for the next cut.
• Danny Huston (Stryker): Huston plays the villain in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and his father, the late John Huston, was also known for playing villains, especially his frightening role as an evil businessman in the film Chinatown. Seeing his father play a villain scared Danny Huston when he was younger, yet he finds playing villains as an adult fascinating in terms of the acting craft.
• Will.i.am (John Wraith): Will.i.am, the singer for Black Eyed Peas, is a huge fan of the X-Men, and this film was his first acting role. He played Nightcrawler, and he based his performance as Nightcrawler partly off his cousin Earl, whom he described as a very bad person who has a soft, good side underneath the bad part.
• Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson): Although Reynolds has been a fan of Deadpool since 2005 when he was first introduced to the character and began aggressively pursuing playing the role on the big screen, he has voiced his unhappiness about the X-Men Origins: Wolverine version of Deadpool. He was uncomfortable about the screenplay ignoring the Deadpool comic books, and it was made during the writer's strike. Reynolds was forced to improvise his own script for Wade Wilson because there were no writers at certain points.
• Kevin Durand (Fred Dukes): Kevin Durand was not a comic book fan growing up. Instead he loved hockey and spent much of his time doing that. However, when he saw the first and second X-Men films, he was so impressed that he pursued the role of The Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
• Dominic Monaghan (Chris Bradley/Bolt): Monaghan, known for his significant roles in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Lost, loves exploring nature and learning about wild creatures. After he helped discover a new spider on a cave expedition in Laos with an arachnologist, it was named after him: the Monaghan spider. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he did not play a character with spider or animal powers (which might have been appropriate considering the actor's interest in creepy crawlies), but a mutant with electrical powers.
• Taylor Kitsch (Remy LeBeau): Kitsch is no stranger to fantastical sci-fi roles. He starred in the epic sci-fi film John Carter. (By coincidence, his co-star in John Carter was Lynn Collins, who is also in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.)
• Lynn Collins (Kayla Silverfox): When it was publicly reported that Lynn Collins, who appears Caucasian, would be cast as Kayla Silverfox's Native American character, she responded to criticism about the decision with the fact that she has Native American ancestry.
• Daniel Henney: To play Agent Zero, Henney had to take extensive gun training and worked extremely hard to make it look authentic. However, much of that hard work was not showcased in the film, and he has wished he could have done more as Agent Zero. Despite those regrets, he was grateful for the big break of being in an X-Men film.
• Sir Patrick Stewart (uncredited as Professor Charles Xavier): Stewart reprised his famous role for a cameo that appears at the end of the film, though the filmmakers "de-aged" him using CGI. The scene was shot on the estate of Hatley Castle, Victoria, British Columbia, which is the original location of Dr. Xavier's Mutant school in X-Men 2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

When the Claws Come Out

Although Wolverine's intriguing origin story was highly anticipated by X-Men fans, the film was not well received by critics or fans, who shredded the film to pieces. Surprisingly, only 38 percent of its critics' reviews and 58 percent of its fan reviews were positive, according to Rotten Tomatoes. This is even more surprising considering the superb cast highlighted above.
