Edwards movie theaters, known officially as Edwards Theatres, began as a family-owned business in the 1930's in California. The theaters became quite successful, with ninety locations in the California area when the founder, William James Edwards passed away in the late 1990's. Even the best laid plans can go awry, however, and the company ultimately declared bankruptcy.
