Twilight Movie Script

Edward and Bella

The Twilight movie script was written by Melissa Rosenberg.

About Melissa Rosenberg

Though Rosenberg originally majored in dance, she soon decided to switch her major to film and move out to California. Rosenberg completed her degree in film and television production at the University of Southern California and began working on various television shows, including:

  • Ally McBeal
  • Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman
  • The O.C.
  • Dexter

While working as a writer for these and other shows, Rosenberg earned her Masters in Fine Art (M.F.A.) from U.S.C. It was in the summer of 2007 when Rosenberg was approached to write the script for Stephanie Meyer's Twilight.

Beginning and Finishing Twilight

When Melissa was approached by Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment to write the movie script for Twilight, she hadn't even heard of it, much less read the book. Rosenberg agreed to the write the screenplay and sat down with the book, fell in love with it and quickly began working on the adaptation, with a few notes from Stephanie Meyer.

Meyer reportedly gave Rosenberg a huge list of things that she was not allowed to change in the story. Not only that, but as it turned out, after she turned in her lengthy outline, Rosenberg learned she had only five short weeks to finish the script before the Writers Guild of America strike. In those five weeks, Rosenberg managed to take Stephanie Meyer's nearly 500 page book and turn it into a little over 100 pages of script that would soon make household names out of actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, among others.

Twilight Quotes

Here are a few of the more memorable quotes from the Twilight movie script:

  • Bella - Death is peaceful, easy. Life is harder...
  • Edward - What if I'm not the hero? What if I'm the bad guy?
  • Edward - I don't have the strength to stay away from you anymore.
  • James - You're alone...because you're faster than others. Not stronger.
  • Edward - I wanted to kill you at first. I've never wanted a human's blood so much before.

If you've read the book and seen the movie, which most Twilight fans have done multiple times, there are probably a few more memorable quotes you love from the script. A Quick Note About Autographed Scripts

You can find autographed scripts to Twilight online at a number of auction websites, including eBay. Before you begin spending any money though, you have to do a bit of digging on the seller to make sure that the script and the signatures are authentic.

An Almost Disaster for New Moon and Memoirs

Finally, it turns out that a beauty shop owner in St. Louis, Missouri, found a copy of the script for the Twilight sequels New Moon and Memoirs, in a garbage can outside of her shop. Instead of selling it for what would have surely been a hefty sum, she returned it to the film studio producing the movie. In return, the studio rewarded her with two tickets to premiere of both films. If the scripts would have been found by a less honest person, it could have meant disaster (not to mention a few quick rewrites) for both films. Not to worry Twi-fans, the secrets of the scripts of both films are still under wraps.
